Is your battery-powered tech not quite lasting like it used to? Maybe you’re carting around backup powerbanks in your bag or the dreaded low battery notification is popping up a lot earlier in the day. What many people don’t realise is that the way you’re using and charging your tech can often be causing the damage.
Here are our top three mistakes when it comes to prolonging your tech’s battery life…
Overnight charging
Leaving your tech to charge so it hits 100 per cent in the middle of the night can diminish the battery over time. Continuing to charge the battery after it’s reached full charge is what does the damage in the long run.
Instead, allow your tech to charge fully once or twice a month. Experts say it’s best to keep your charge to between 40 and 80 per cent to help keep your battery healthy.
Display settings
Brightness that’s turned all the way up will drain your battery. Many of us don’t need it on full blast, and it’s eating up a big portion of the charge.
Check what your display settings are and adjust to a lower level. It’s likely you may not have even noticed you’ve got it turned up to the max!
Charging whilst using
A quick way to overheat your device and damage your battery is to leave it plugged in while you’re using it, especially if you’re doing something extensive. Heating up the battery like this is one of the main reasons they fail to last.
If you notice your battery dwindling, shut your device down and leave it to charge instead. You’ll control your device’s temperature.
Many devices are now equipped with features that conserve your battery life wherever possible. Open up your settings and switch your device to low battery mode – you’ll thank yourself later!
